Documentary: Rebound

I was fortunate enough to join the Rebound team when it was still in its infancy, and it was a wonder to watch it blossom.

 

Rebound is a collaboration between filmmakers, activists, educators, and formerly incarcerated people. It tells the story of two incredible women, Laura Murray, and Isabella Quevedo, emerging from incarceration into the world of higher education. I was lucky enough to join the team while the project was still in its early days, allowing me to play a pivotal role in its development.

 

I started as an assistant editor, processing and cataloging footage, but my role expanded as I got to collaborate more with the directors, Tamara Perkins and Jason Richie. I started cutting scenes, commissioning footage, and writing interview questions, earning an eventual producer credit.

 

Ultimately, I was tapped to cut the documentary pilot, which helped secure funding and a platform on PBS.

The finished film has been screened at universities and carceral facilities nationwide and on PBS, and I am so proud to share it with the world.
